ABOUT THE TRAINING:
This course provides healthcare professionals with a foundational understanding of clinical hypnosis and its application as an adjunctive tool in medical, dental, and psychological practice. This evidence-based training explores the integration of adjunctive clinical hypnosis into patient care to support anxiety management, aid relaxation, and enhance patient care in different contexts.
Through a combination of self-directed study and live online teaching, participants will develop practical skills in communication, hypnosis induction, deepening techniques, and therapeutic suggestion to enhance their practice. The course also covers key ethical and professional considerations, to enhance safe and effective practice.
Delivery: This course combines self-directed study with live online sessions via Zoom. To make the most of the limited teaching time, participants are expected to complete some pre-reading. All relevant materials will be clearly identified on BSCAH’s online learning platform, which will be accessible before the course begins.

This course is accredited by the Royal College of Anaesthetists and provides 20 CPD credits upon completion.

Aim of the course: To develop students’ understanding and safe applications of hypnosis within their clinical field and expertise.
Module 1:
Aim: To develop students’ skills and knowledge in hypnosis, with specific attention to working with stress and anxiety.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of Module 1 we will have demonstrated how to:
- explain hypnosis to a patient/client and deal with any misconceptions
- understand and use effective language in interactions
- induce hypnosis and use simple suggestion to help manage anxiety and aid patient wellbeing
- use & teach self-hypnosis for relaxation
- identify relevant ethical and professional issues in the use of hypnosis in clinical practice
Module 2
Aim: to enhance students’ skills, knowledge and safe application of hypnosis
Learning Outcomes: By the end of Module 2 we will have demonstrated how to:
- set up and use ideomotor signalling
- use a classic reframe
- use hypnotic imagery to manage a negative event e.g. phobia
- evaluate & audit clinical practice in hypnosis
Module 3
Aim: to further develop and enhance students’ skills, knowledge and safe application of hypnosis
Learning Outcomes: By the end of Module 3 we will have demonstrated how to:
- apply simple metaphor in hypnosis work
- use hypnotic techniques to work with functional disorders
- use simple hypnotic procedures to help in the relief of pain, both acute and chronic
- integrate hypnosis into practice – cases and treatment plans
NB: Students should only apply clinical hypnosis in contexts where they are already qualified to work with the presenting issue, independent of hypnosis.
How will the course be delivered?
This course is made up of self directed study and organised face to zoom sessions and breakout rooms.
You will be given guided access to curated online resources (available for three months after completion of the course) which cover all aspects of the Core Curriculum. Please note that you will not have immediate access to course materials upon booking. Access is usually granted 4 weeks prior to the scheduled start of the course. You will receive an email giving instructions on how to access the course materials at this time.
There will be experiential learning and practice in breakout rooms in groups of three or four, supervised by an experienced hypnosis practitioner. All tutors are Healthcare professionals with experience of integrating clinical hypnosis within their area of specialism.
The modules may be booked separately but Module 1 must be completed first.

This course is aimed at teaching the basics that health professionals can integrate into their existing clinical work.
As a safe-guard for clients / patients, we will only train health care professionals who are eligible for membership of BSCAH.

Cancellation policy: Full refund if cancelled up to 4 weeks prior to event; 50% refund if cancelled 2-4 weeks before the event, no refund if cancelled after this time.
There is a minimum number requirement for this training, and if this has not been reached by two weeks prior to the training, then BSCAH reserves the right to cancel with full refunds given.
