A face to face day designed for those who have recently trained in clinical hypnosis or who wish to brush up/expand on their skills in a supportive environment with experienced tutors demonstrating techniques and facilitating discussion. Previous training in clinical hypnosis is required.

Venue: Birkbeck University of London, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HX

Tutors: Dr David Kraft (Psychotherapist), Dr Sam Crone (Dentist), Dr Kate Berry (Consultant anaesthetist) and Dr Maureen Tilford (Retired GP)

Aim: To grow and enhance skills in hypnosis for clinical practice

Learning Objectives:

1. Build rapport in clinical practice using hypnotic strategies
2. Demonstrate skills in using hypnosis
3. Implement hypnotic techniques in the management of a variety of problems

Programme:

9.30 – 10.00 Welcome & registration
10.00 – 12.00 1. Quick rapport building in the acute setting plus procedural anxiety
2. General anxiety management        
Inductions – various methods demonstrated with use of ego strengthening and anchoring  followed by practice in small groups
12.00 – 13.00 Lunch
13.00 – 16.00 1. Phobias
2. Customised Metaphors in Chronic Pain Management  
Optional other topics for discussion: reframing for chemotherapy side effects; glove anaesthesia; gag reflex.
16.00 Finish
