This monthly webinar takes place between 6 and 7.30pm.
We have three presenters: Chris Perrin, Liane Reeves and Julie Hirst.

Aim: The aim of this webinar is to explore how hypnosis can help in the treatment of gut disorders

Learning outcomes:
1. Understand the term ‘contented gut’ and some explanatory models underlying gut issues
2. Understand how one can use gut directed hypnotherapy and allied approaches to help in IBS and inflammatory bowel disease
3. Explore ways of using gut directed hypnotherapy in gut disorders and some of the pros and cons of working in groups

About this webinar:
Chris Perrin will share his experience of the best ways to educate patients on gut issues, some explanatory models and how gut directed hypnotherapy (along with other therapies) can help.
Liane Reeves will talk a bit about the contented gut and the pros/cons of working in groups with some of the outcomes.
Julie Hirst will talk about her experiences of working with gut directed hypnotherapy and discuss some case studies .

Chris Perrin is a clinical nurse specialist who has used psychotherapeutic approaches to help people manage physical health problems for more than 20 years at University College London Hospitals and since 2014 has focused on those with gut problems. Since having trained in hypnosis with BSCAH he has provided courses in gut focused hypnosis working both with IBS and inflammatory bowel disease. These are based are based of the work of Whorwell and Palsson and consist of an assessment and then 7 hourly sessions. He has also trained in Autogenic Training and Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness Based Cognitive
Therapy.

Liane Reeves is the Adult Allergy Specialist Dietitian at Churchill Hospital in Oxford, where she collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to diagnose and advise adults on managing food allergies and intolerances. She also runs a private practice in Wantage, Oxfordshire, offering dietary advice and hypnotherapy to help adults manage chronic symptoms, particularly those affecting the gut. Additionally, she is the co-founder of The Contented Gut, which provides online group Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy for adults with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. 

Julie Hirst is a retired public health specialist who worked in Derbyshire for over 30 years, in the NHS until April 2013 when she was transferred to Derbyshire County Council. She was registered as a public health specialist with the UKPHR (https://ukphr.org/) from 2008 until 2021 (retired in 2018).  She took BSCAH’s foundation course in 2016 and completed its graduate certificate in clinical hypnosis in 2021. She continues to work for the Open University as a Tutor in their School of Health and Wellbeing.
