We have three presenters: Ann Williamson, Shuja Hoda. and Isabel Rosen.

Aim: The aim of this webinar is to explore how hypnosis can be used to help depression

Learning Objectives:

1. To explore how different hypnotic strategies can be used in depression

2. Understand how hypnosis can enhance CBT approaches with depression

3. Explore ways to improve self esteem which is often very low in depressed patients

About This Webinar:

In this webinar Ann Williamson will talk generally about how hypnosis can be used to help with depression with various case examples, Shuja Hoda will talk through using CBT in a case of depression and discuss how hypnosis might have enhanced this approach, whilst Isabel Rosen will talk about her experience of working with a patient with low self esteem and depression.

Shuja Hoda is a highly experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) with over 25 years of expertise in the field of mental health. He is BABCP-accredited and has worked extensively across the National Health Service, supporting adults with a range of mental health challenges, from mild and moderate conditions to severe anxiety disorders. His career spans both secondary care and community mental health settings, where he has played a pivotal role in psychotherapy, clinical supervision, and mental health service development.

Shuja currently works as a Psychotherapist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosciences, specialising in Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) within an inpatient multidisciplinary team (MDT) setting. His role involves delivering evidence-based interventions to patients with complex mental health conditions.

Isabel Rosen qualified in Dentistry at St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospital School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1981 and was in General Dental Practice for many years. During that time Isabel was involved in teaching and training as well as Clinical Governance and Compliance. She has also worked for government agencies, the community and was instrumental in devising, developing and implementing policies and procedures for various organisations.

Isabel became interested in Hypnosis in the 1990’s particularly with respect to nervous and anxious patients in General Dental Practice and subsequently completed a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy. She is now semi-retired and works as a practising Hypnotherapist in a Therapy centre seeing patients with a wide range of conditions.  Isabel is expanding her skill set in counselling and is now in training accredited by UKCP.

Ann Williamson was a GP for more than thirty years and has used hypnosis and brief therapy both formally and informally since the 1990s. She has trained in hypnosis, NLP, brief solution-oriented therapy and other approaches. She has been a trainer for the British Society of Clinical & Academic Hypnosis for many years. She has also lectured at Manchester, Chester and Salford Universities. She has run numerous workshops on brief psychological interventions and stress management over the years both in the UK and abroad. She has written three books: on stress management, smoking cessation and on brief psychological interventions in clinical practice. She is also co-editor of A Handbook of Contemporary Hypnosis published by Wiley in 2011 and has contributed to several other books and journals. She is also a Reiki Master Trainer and has an interest in creativity and exploring one’s emotions through the arts.
