The Core Curriculum topics are at present covered by asynchronous self-directed learning and synchronous virtual learning, The course has been designed so that that all three modules are worked through sequentially so this is the recommended process (although once having completed module 1, modules 2 and 3 could be done out of order if necessary.) A certificate of attendance for CPD purposes is given for each module.
The Core Curriculum for Module 1:
- Nature of hypnosis
- History of hypnosis
- Theories of hypnosis
- Hypnotisability, scales, categorisation, and flexibility of approach
- Safety aspects (contra-indications, management of abreaction & working online etc)
- Selection and preparation of the patient
- The Therapeutic relationship – building rapport, communication, observation, and feedback (include introduction to nocebo)
- Two or three inductions and deepening
- Ego-strengthening and positive suggestion (direct and post-hypnotic)
- Anchoring
- Self-hypnosis (Teaching self hypnosis/management of stress for patients and clinicians)
- Use of hypnosis in anxiety management
The topics below (13-18) will be considered throughout all three modules rather than as separate learning topics
- Simple uses of metaphor, Including guided imagery
- Uses in clinical practice (to include research, evidence base & audit)
- Discussion with participants regarding implementing hypnosis into their clinical field.
- Professional and ethical issues and best practice (the hypnotist/client relationship, safeguarding, confidentiality, recording and documenting)
- Evaluation, outcome measures and clinical audit
- Role of BSCAH – Membership & ongoing support
The Core Curriculum for Module 2:
- Ideomotor signalling
- Reframing –treatment of habit disorder (including smoking cessation)
- Phobias – desensitisation
- Handling past trauma within your clinical field and context, including memory / false memory – phobias and PTSD symptoms
The Core Curriculum for Module 3:
- Introduction to the treatment of functional disorder (Including IBS and Medically Unexplained Symptoms) including exploring the ‘causes’ of Functional Disorders
