This monthly webinar takes place between 6 and 7.30pm.
Gill Smith and Michelle Makin will be presenting this webinar.
Aim:
To develop awareness of hypnotic phenomena and how to use them.
Learning objectives:
To explore how to identify different hypnotic phenomena as they arise in therapy
To understand how to select specific phenomena that are appropriate to integrate into the treatment of a clinical condition
To learn how to use suggestions to elicit phenomena to maximise treatment effectiveness

Dr Michelle Mackin is a counselling psychologist working in an NHS Gambling Harms Service and in private practice, where she specialises in the treatment of addiction, trauma, anxiety, and depression. She draws on an integrative framework that combines CBT, Schema Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, and experiential methods including EMDR and hypnosis. Her approach to hypnosis integrates CBT with Michael Yapko’s process-oriented style, with a focus on practical, evidence-based applications in clinical settings.

Dr Gill Smith is a retired consultant psychiatrist who has worked in the NHS and the independent sector. She has been using hypnosis within her clinical practice since 1982 and is involved with training and was a Trustee for BSCAH until 2024.
She is one of the tutors for BSCAH and is particularly keen on supporting less experienced and newly trained colleagues via group and individual mentoring.
She has a particular interest in the treatment of functional disorders – particularly Functional Neurological Disorder using Hypnosis and allied approaches.
She is currently based in Edinburgh where she is working for the Marie Curie hospice as a clinical hypnotherapist on a voluntary basis. She receives referrals from Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Edinburgh and she has a thriving private practice.
