ABOUT THE TRAINING:

This course is aimed at teaching the basics of clinical hypnosis that health professionals can integrate into their existing clinical work.

This course consists of self directed study plus face to zoom sessions online. To get the most out of the limited teaching time it is useful to have completed some pre-reading. The relevant material will be clearly indicated on BSCAH’s online learning platform which will be available from early February.

Module 1: 7th & 8th Sept 2024
Module 2: 5th & 6th Oct 2024
Module 3: 19th & 20th Oct 2024

Timetable:
Morning session: 9.30am -12.30pm (Sat) 10.00am – 12.30pm (Sun)
Afternoon session: 1.30pm – 4.00pm

Aim of the course: To develop students’ understanding and safe applications of hypnosis within their clinical field and expertise.

The Royal College of Anaesthetists will award 20 CPD credits for this course

Module 1: 
Aim: To develop students’ skills and knowledge in hypnosis, with specific attention to working with stress and anxiety.   

Learning Outcomes: By the end of Module 1 the student should be able to:

  • explain hypnosis to a patient/client and deal with any misconceptions
  • induce hypnosis and use simple suggestion to help with common conditions (eg anxiety)
  • teach self-hypnosis to patients/clients so that they can utilise this for themselves for relaxation
  • utilise self-hypnosis themselves for stress management and personal development
  • identify relevant ethical and professional issues in the use of hypnosis in clinical practice
  • apply simple hypnotic techniques competently in their own clinical practice to relieve anxiety and aid relaxation

Module 2
Aim:  to enhance students’ skills, knowledge and safe application of hypnosis     

Learning Outcomes: By the end of Module 2 the student should be able to:

  • set up and use ideomotor signalling
  • use a classic reframe for habit disorders and addictions
  • treat a phobia or negative event with hypnotic imagery
  • use hypnotic techniques to resolve past trauma
  • evaluate and audit their hypnosis

Module 3
Aim: to further develop and enhance students’ skills, knowledge and safe application of hypnosis    

Learning Outcomes: By the end of Module 3 the student should be able to:

  • apply metaphor in hypnosis work
  • use hypnosis to work with functional disorders
  • use simple hypnotic procedures to help in the relief of chronic pain
  • use hypnosis and imagery in the management of acute and procedural pain, including glove anaesthesia
  • integrate hypnosis into practice – Cases and treatment plans

NB: Students should only treat with hypnosis those conditions that they are qualified to treat without hypnosis

How will the course be delivered?
This course is made up of self directed study and organised face to zoom sessions and breakout rooms.

You will be given guided access to curated online resources (available for three months after completion of the course) which cover all aspects of the Core Curriculum. Please note that you will not have immediate access to course materials upon booking. Access is usually granted 8 weeks prior to the scheduled start of the course. You will receive an email giving instructions on how to access the course materials at this time.

There will be experiential learning and practice in breakout rooms in groups of three or four, supervised by an experienced hypnosis practitioner. All tutors are Healthcare professionals with experience of integrating clinical hypnosis within their area of specialism.

The modules may be booked separately but Module 1 must be completed first.

Cancellation policy: Full refund if cancelled up to 4 weeks prior to event; 50% refund if cancelled 2-4 weeks before the event, no refund if cancelled after this time. 
There is a minimum number requirement for this training, and if this has not been reached by two weeks prior to the training, then BSCAH reserves the right to cancel with full refunds given.
